Oskar Schlemmer (1888-1943), the director of the Bauhaus theatre workshop, conceived of theatre as a synthesis of three elements: people in space, light in movement and architecture. The Bauhaus Dances(1927-1929) are the most complete expression of this synthesis, as they engage in a close dialogue with the spatial ideas of Walter Gropius, visible in the school's building in Dessau, and with the experiments that Kandinsky, Klee and Itten were carrying out in their workshops on colour and shape. The relationship that Schlemmer creates between physical, mental and machine-like elements in the choreography, the costumes and the music of these Dances, understood as a "total work of art", embody the revolutionary will to transform life to match the parameters of modernity. The concert and the screening will be introduced by C. Raman Schlemmer, the event's artistic director. The performing musicians are Han-Gyeol Lie and Mario Nieto Navacerrada.
