Enlace-27. Alfredo Jaar

The film is a melancholic elegy dedicated to the people of Angola. Using a minimum of media, the artist has created a work that refuses to use the stereotypical and often degrading images of Africa that are usually broadcast by the media. Divided into ten cantos or short visual poems structured like haikus and using different versions of the song Muxima, the film offers a contemporary view of Angola today. As a group, the songs form a work, according to Jaar, “about a woman named Muxima…about a church named Muxima…about a popular Angolan song…[and] about none of above.”
