Picasso from Cultural Studies. The Dream and Lie of Spain (1898–1922)
International Congress
This international congress is the first event to be held inside the framework of the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Pablo Picasso’s Death. Its title alludes to Picasso’s renowned prints under the title Sueño y mentira de Franco (The Dream and Lie of Franco, 1937), and investigates, from the field of Cultural Studies, Picasso’s relationship with the challenges, crises and transformations that shook Spain in the period stretching from the 1898 Disaster to the end of the Rif War in the 1920s.

To See What We Hear. To Hear What We See
The Museo Reina Sofía’s Juan Antonio Ramírez Chair invites Alexandra T. Vázquez, an associate professor of NYU’s Institute of Performing Arts at the Tisch School of the Arts, to participate in its programme of master lectures. The programme for this edition includes a seminar and a lecture concerning music’s relationship with different experiences, objects and spaces, and also the methods, modes and approaches around what we feel we know about the visual.

Free Unions. Searching for a Place
Activities on the Collection
Free Unions is a series of events, tours and activations in the rooms of Communicating Vessels. Collection 1881–2021, the new presentation of the Museo Reina Sofía Collection. This edition activates Room 104.06. Luis Camnitzer: Puerto Montt Massacre, 1969 and Room 104.07. A Map Is Not a Place. Via performers Teresa Ralli and Jorge Tadeo Baldeón, from Grupo Cultural Yuyachkani, active since 1971 in Peru, fragments of the collective’s artistic repertoire are set in relation to the memories formalised by other artists who have confronted similar political or social situations.

The Feminisms Container
Docu-action on Feminisms and Syndicalism
The Contenedor de feminismos (Feminisms Container) is a sculpture and mobile archive devised and activated by artist Carme Nogueira and researchers Anxela Caramés and Uqui Permui and as apart of Episode 8. Exodus and Communal Life, the final chapter in the new presentation of the Museo Reina Sofía Collection. Designed to be used in public space, it seeks to recover, document and make visible the history of women, feminisms and struggles in this sphere.
