The guided tours around the exhibition What They Saw. Historical Photobooks by Women, 1843–1999 seek to throw into relief women’s roles in producing, disseminating and authoring photobooks. With this as its aim, the show gathers and presents, chronologically, sixty-one publications — many of them part of the holdings of the Museo Reina Sofía Library and Documentation Centre — which allow a re-writing of the history of the photobook which is both more equal and more inclusive.

The tours sketched out by Magnetised Needle develop within the framework of Almost Books, a mediation programme from the Library and Documentation Centre which sets forth an approach to their spaces, collections and services, extending beyond both as platforms for research on contemporary art.
